CATACOMBS
The Catacombs were a burial ground for the Roman christians. The catacombs ran hundreds of kilometres and underneath the town. Many of Catacombs developed around family tombs. The catacombs were a way for christians to have memorial ceremony and displaying christian symbols, they were also used for celebrations. Around the time of persecution the christians used the catacombs as a hide out. When christianity became a religion of the Roman empire the catacombs became a place of pilgrimage. As centuries passed by, the saints started to use the churches instead of the catacombs. The catacombs weren't gone for long, by the 10th century Antonio Bosio rediscovered them.
Not only were the Catacombs a hide out, but also a place filled with beautiful art work done by the christians. The art work in the Catacombs had symbols, it was a neat way that the christian talked or a way to show that they were christians.
